In order to show concern for personal privacy rights, Amazon's Echo Show 5 now comes with a camera cover. It's the first of its kind to do so and is likely meant to bolster customer trust which has taken a beating this past year.

I like the added cover to the new device as shown, but I'm surprised that Echo users of all types didn't expect that actual humans might hear some of their conversations with Alexa. How else is Amazon supposed to improve its algorithms?

Well, Amazon could hire beta testers like technology companies used to do in order to improve their devices. If they don't want to spend the cash, they could at least ask Echo owners for consent and allow people to opt out.
