Amazon has rolled out a free update that empowers their Alexa-enabled devices with Alexa Guard. It's a home security system of sorts that detects sound and alerts the owner immediately if a smoke alarm goes off, a window breaks, or something unusual happens after you've told the device that you'll be away. It can do quite a bit!

It sounds like a fantastic benefit and something I'll use. I like that the device records what's going on so you can determine whether it's something serious or just an exuberant pet playing with its toy.

I haven't had a chance to test it out yet, but it's a great feature and I'm pretty surprised that Amazon is offering it as a free update.
