This has to be the biggest lie ever told because most of these companies have been known to use personal data for their own gain. I doubt if this would ever change, especially with target advertising being a major source of revenue.

The problem is not just with companies, but also with the government. Our health data, academic data, occupational data, and other information are all known by the government. We freely give it when we apply for licenses, so we actually don't... See more

You are right about this, but the point of the article is that when they say that they protect our privacy then they should do it. If they won't take our privacy seriously, then better not say or write it.

I agree with you but the issue here is not only do they pledge to protect our privacy and security; these same companies then go ahead and share this data for personal gain.

The wording is simply to placate users. By now, we know that it's a farce, but they don't have much of an alternative. They can't very well say "We have to put this policy up to satisfy privacy laws"
