Well, the article doesn't make a strong case as to whether shutting down a computer makes a huge difference. There is no reason to leave it on when not in use, unless there is a download running, for instance. I would be worried about the eventual battery life of a PC that is never shut down.

Really interesting article. I keep my computer on 24/7. I didn't think it would extend the life of my computer to do that, I just dislike waiting for it to restart and load up all my programs.
