While it may seem more convenient to have all of your smart home appliances controlled in a single app, I'd be wary of being forced into ONLY using one app for everything in the home. Operating lights, or the dishwasher, or the garage door, or the alarm system all in a single app created specially for that home might mean you are locked into certain models and brands for each device offered. That means that if you need to replace your dishwasher ten years from now, something will have to be backwards compatible with essentially your homes firmware. Or better yet, you may have to shell out for an expensive software upgrade to handle the new dishwasher's undoubtedly futuristic tech. I think we should instead ask for more versatility from all smart home appliances to the point that it resembles the universal remote control of televisions.
