Asus ROG Strix SCAR III
Asus has unveiled the new Asus ROG Strix SCAR III as a hyper-elite gaming laptop, having in mind the esports pro and providing hard-core laptop gaming at 240Hz. The Asus ROG Strix SCAR III is a comprehensive refresh with various design tweaks. Among which, it has the “world’s fastest” laptop panel with a silky-smooth 240Hz refresh rate and is equipped with the latest and greatest CPUs and GPUs from Intel and Nvidia.
Only the 15.6in model of the Asus ROG Strix SCAR III will feature a dazzling refresh rate of the 240Hz panel, while the larger 17.3in model comes in 144Hz only. In addition, it will have the octa-core Intel Core i9-9980HK chipset, with a base clock speed of 2.4GHz that Turbo Boosts up to 5GHz, and Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2070 GPU to maximise the gaming prowess.
The Asus ROG Strix SCAR III looks a bit gaudy, with an RGB panel (or Light Bar) that pumps out a rainbow of neon light around the laptop’s base and per-key RGB backlighting on the keyboard. Coupled with the fact that the touchpad doubles as a digital number pad, it adds to the outlandish appearance. However, it is definitely a modern laptop. The incredibly slim bezels around the IPS display give it an ultra-sleek, modern look, which comes at the cost of a built-in webcam, which Asus is including an external camera at no extra cost.
On the right-hand edge, there is a translucent orange wedge. This is ROG’s latest invention, the removable “Keystone”. It is a memory card and slots into its own proprietary port. Once installed in the laptop, it is used to store a vast number of different settings, from keyboard lighting to display brightness and CPU tweaks. Using a number of different Keystone “wedges”, you will be able to swap over all your settings in a matter of seconds to suit the game that you are playing.
There are plenty of other connectivity options on the Asus ROG Strix SCAR III, though, including three USB Type-A ports, a USB Type-C slot, a full-sized HDMI 2.0 port, dual 3.5mm audio jacks for headset connection, plus a Gigabit Ethernet port.
From dedicated gamers and power users like those who do 3D modeling or complex computing to everyday users, these users will truly appreciate the fast and smooth performance with the Asus ROG Strix SCAR III.
