I'd go for the 13-inch Microsoft Surface mostly because it's compatible with my job and it's $100 cheaper than the MacBook Air. I wish it included a Thunderbolt 3 port though.

The lack of a Thunderbolt 3 port is a big miss, especially for a laptop at this price. I'd expect it from a budget laptop though. Still, I'd buy the smaller Surface as I like the pen and keyboard better.

I have a bias for Apple products, but I must also admit that Microsoft offers a good alternative in the Surface Laptop. I agree with the article about the big display bezels making it look old fashioned and yes, the absence of the Thunderbolt 3... See more

I'm in Apple's corner as well. Apple's laptops may cost more, but they last for a long time, which makes the price differential fairly negligible in my opinion. The Microsoft Surface laptops aren't terrible, but I prefer the Mac.

As an afterthought, it is good to keep checking for new devices, just in case anyone needs to make a purchase. I would opt for a MacBook, irrespective of the slight difference in price.

I agree with you, Octane, and most people will go for a device that lasts for a long time, irrespective of the cost. These laptops will appeal to different people, based on preference.

There are massive deals going on right now for the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 6 if anyone is interested. Personally, I'm waiting for the Surface Neo to come out.
